Day 183. 182 days and $179 left togo.

“Ohhh, we’re halfway there. Woah, livin’ on a prayer! Take my hand, we’ll make it I swear…”

From the lips of Jon Bon Jovi, yes friends, we are halfway there! Day 183 has arrived – six months down and six more to go. Clearly this calls for celebration and a celebration will be had. My halfway point also just happens to fall on the day of my lovely friend JK’s wedding, so party dress, here I come!

Day 183 - Before

Day 183 - Before

I came across this puppy in my sifting journeys for a buck. I loved the color most of all and the ruching and gathered waist was totally Grecian, which I adored. My first thought was to turn it into a mini dress and make the sleeves 3/4 until I got the wedding invitation in the mail. I knew that this would be the perfect piece for the “black tie optional” dress code. First plan of attack, the sleeves.

Seam ripping the sleeves

Seam ripping the sleeves

I took my seam ripper and began to carefully take out the stitches – this fabric pulls very, very easy so I had to be gentle with my seam ripping activity. I was on my way after both sleeves came off.

Sleeveless!

Sleeveless!

I then pinned under the raw edges of the armholes and hand stitched the edges. Even though this took a little longer than planned, I wanted to make sure it looked clean and precise.

After the arms were tweaked, I cinched the sleeves a bit by gathering the material and sewing them together. Aside from a small style change, it also made the top of the dress a bit more fitted as well.

Strap cinching!

And with the addition of some gold jewelry and shoes, a peacock feather in my hair and a glass of champagne in my hand, it was celebration time!

Day 183 - After

Day 183 - After

Ooh, and did I mention that there were pockets? A dream come true, especially for a wedding. Camera in one pocket, gloss in the other.

Perfect for quick shots of the lovely new couple dancing the night away to a fab wedding band playing Journey (you know we were all belting out some “Don’t Stop Believing”), Earth, Wind & Fire (I mean, it’s not a wedding if “Dancing in September” isn’t played) and the Black Eyed Peas (yes, whoever had a feeling that it was going to be a good night was right – we lived it up, we smashed it, like oh my God, and then we did it again).

,I heart the back of her dress!

I HEART the back of her dress!

My favorite part of the night was the sweets! From the cake…

Cake!

Cake!

…to the candy bar filled with sour apple rings and chocolate covered pretzels, I was set!

I Want Candy!

I Want Candy!

Twas the perfect night to spend dancing, toasting, picture taking, smiling, and celebrating with old friends and new friends alike.

No, I did not catch the bouquet :)

No, I did not catch the bouquet, borrowed it solely for the photo op :)

To the next six months friends – thank you for all the love and support! I’m blessed and honored to have you on this trip with me :)

Cheers, L’Chaim, Prost, Salute, A Votre Sante, Okole Maluna, Bonski, & Kampai! xx Marisa

I discovered your blog a week ago and I am hooked! I can’t believe how amazing this dress turned out. You looked lovely and I love the peacock feather accent. I have an old sleeveless evening gown of my mom’s from the 70′s in the same fabric but a rich chocolate brown. The only thing that has kept me from wearing it is the unflattering cowl neck (not drapey enough, more like a mock neck), otherwise its gorgeous. I am getting out the seam ripper tonight!!
